Mindfulness workshop-for Teens and Parents

A superpower for today’s busy families.

Are you looking for a way to keep balanced and build inner peace? Today’s families move at a hectic pace. Neuroscience research provides strong evidence that mindfulness practice can positively alter the structure and function of the brain. Mindfulness practices have a positive impact on managing stress, improving academic and athletic performance and psychological well-being. This workshop is an introduction for both parents and teens ages 11-15 to mindfulness and its benefits.

Mindful Parenting Instructor Lucas Leard Mann, Senior Instructor of UC San Diego School of Mindfulness will introduce participants to the foundations of mindfulness and the effect it has on emotional regulation and stress reduction. Participants will learn about the fascinating transformation of the adolescent brain, and ways to redirect your child’s attention in the midst of conflict. Participants will explore methods for supporting their child’s emotional strength and well-being.

Mindfulness: A Teen’s Superpower Instructor Sydney Reece, certified mindfulness instructor, University of Massachusetts Medical School Center for Mindfulness designed this course specifically for young teens and focuses on building self-compassion while providing tools and techniques to balance a busy social life and excel academically. Through developmentally appropriate activities, teens will learn to navigate the emotional ups and downs of life with greater ease.

These workshops provide a foundation for two upcoming series of classes, one for parents and another for teens, which will go more in-depth into the practice and benefits of mindfulness and self-compassion starting in October.
